Dinan the enchantress,

For centuries, the traveler who sees Dinan from the horizon is seized with a feeling of respect and admiration in the face of the imposing fortress of which only a few majestic bell towers stand out from the wall.

However, once one of the four monumental gates of the city has been crossed, this same traveler discovers a lively city where medieval streets and half-timbered houses give Dinan a feeling of eternity. Your head never stops spinning. How to choose? The Governor's House, the Kératry Hotel, the porches of the Apport or the Place des Mercier? Each street is overflowing with architectural treasures, starting with the Rue du Jerzual which has linked the medieval city to its port for almost a thousand years.

The English know this well! Since the end of the 18th century, they have been coming to Dinan in large numbers, charmed by the beauty of the city and the mild climate. In the 19th century, entire families even settled there, creating an English colony in Dinan that would last until 1915. Many traces of their passage remain, such as the Anglican church, the English organ of the Saint-Malo church and the Victoria Club. The English garden, named in honor of the colony, perpetuates this memory. A must-see! It is from the English garden that visitors can discover an exceptional panorama of the Rance as well as the impressive viaduct, inaugurated in 1852.

A city of art and history, Dinan attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year eager to discover its impressive heritage, starting with the Clock Tower, whose platform, over 40 metres high, offers a panoramic view of the entire medieval city. But it is also a cultural hub, rich in its music festivals and street theatre, which constantly reminds us that Dinan is a 21st century city where the flavours of the past blend with the modern world.

Châteaubriand, Victor Hugo and Théodore Botrel loved and sang Dinan. The magic of the city is that we find, on every street corner, a little of their poetry.

Let yourself be enchanted….
